006. Where is Success Hidden?
Being that I’ve recently moved out to Colorado, I thought I would tell a story I heard about a man who didn’t know the secret to success.
This story actually takes place just South of Denver. A story about the room of sparkling jewels.
There was a man who was drilling, mining, and digging in a place where he believed to be a rich source of gold. In an attempt to become rich, he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars (today it would be millions) on equipment and land, and invested years of his life.
He dug on the east end of his property and on the west end. He tried by the forest to the north and the creek to the south. He dug up thousands of feet, only to come up empty. Finally, after he thought he gave it everything he had, he decided to try one more spot... the well by his house.
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and finally, he became so discouraged that he gave up.
He decided he was going to sell everything, move to Denver, and get a job as a salesman. So he put all of his equipment and land up for sale. It sold quickly and he was off.
The new man had new hope. He had a dream that was not yet crushed by this desolate land. The first place he decided he would dig - the area by the old well. Within a meter of digging, he struck pay dirt and later founded one of the greatest mines in Colorado history. Years later, and a lot of gold later, his men blew open a place later to be called The Room of Sparkles and Jewels.
The original man gave up. He quit right before the going got good. He didn’t know that success is on the other side of struggle. Right when you feel like you want to quit, that’s when you know you’re close. Right when you think there’s nothing left to give, you have to reach down just a little bit deeper, and find something you didn’t think you had in you.
Success is on the other side of struggle.
Dig just a little deeper every time you feel like giving up.
