On this episode, Rick Heller (Head Baseball Coach at University of Iowa) and I dive deep into the steps you need to take to build quality, positive routines in everything you do. We also talk about how to have athletes deal with failure and the system that he teaches in order to get them to understand the mental game including one of the more interesting topics, which is what a “swing vision” is. Towards the end of the podcast, we also talk about what it takes to be emotionally stable from a coaching perspective and how to use the tools in your toolbelt on purpose instead of reacting to situations and making a mess of it.

Coach Rick Heller is currently the head baseball coach at University of Iowa for 7 years. Before Iowa, he was the head baseball coach at Indiana State University for 4 years and Northern Iowa for 10 and Upper Iowa for 12 and a high school baseball coach for 3 years.

Pazik’s BIG 3 Questions:

  1. What system do you teach your athletes to stay in control of themselves mentally and emotionally?

  2. What is one thing you like to see out of yourself or your coaches when it comes to emotional stability?

  3. Can you please explain what a swing vision is?
