On this episode, Arianna Luther (Assistant Strength Coach at University of Nevada) and I dive deep into what it means to be a driven athlete and what happens when you’re primarily driven by extrinsic motivators. We also talk about what to do with the kids who don’t listen to you, and what it’s like being a young female coach in the weightroom.

We’ll swing it over to Arianna for her bio:

Hello, my name is Arianna Luther and I am currently the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Nevada, Reno. I work primarily with Track and Field, Cross Country, and Men’s Tennis. My athletic background includes 16 years of competitive gymnastics and a short transition into Olympic Weightlifting whilst enduring two shoulder surgeries which eventually led to athletic retirement. I’ve been involved in the strength and conditioning field for the past 7 years, which includes internships at Lindenwood University where I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, EXOS, Montana State University, and University of Central Florida. I graduated with a Masters Degree in Kinesiology, Sports Psychology from Texas Christian University, where I also served as a Graduate Assistant in Strength and Conditioning working with Beach Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and Swimming and Diving.

Pazik’s BIG 3 Questions:

  1. What is the #1 quality you like seeing out of your athletes from the mental side of the game?

  2. What is it like being a young female in the weightroom, coaching guys that are literally 2-3 times your size?

  3. How do you go from being externally driven to being internally driven?
